The group once more attended the Arts Centre for our fifth period with Paul. This time the subject was a landscape of a water meadow looking towards a place called ‘Stoke by Nayland’, an area that appealed to Constable. This was a more challenging subject which would have to be done over two visits as one session would not provide enough time to complete it. By mutual consent it was decided to give the scene an Autumn look so that there would not be a heavy green predominance, giving one the opportunity to inject some light and bright colours to the painting. As in the past Paul gave us each a photocopy sketch in order to put a few guidelines on to our pads with a reminder to lay the subject out in an order of thirds, after which we set about adding the first washes and a few of the details of church and cottages. In seemingly no time at all it was time to pack up, again being told to practice at home. We are all looking forward to the next time in order to complete the scene.

We all met again on Thurs 16th for another pleasant morning when most of us tried to improve on our landscape painting. Harry Peart looked in on us to tell us about the project ‘Art In The Sky’ and invited anyone to participate in it.
