In July, six of the group spent a day at a bridge event at Walworth
Castle, playing in one afternoon session and one evening session. For those
of you who don`t know it, bridge is a partnership game, and works in the
following way:
When the partnership does well, then YOU take the credit, and when the
partnership doesn`t do well, then YOUR PARTNER takes the blame ! ( With that
arrangement, how can you lose ?) Unfortunately, all of our partners had an
off day, so we didn`t do well !!! But we all enjoyed the day out, which
included a nice dinner at the castle, between sessions, and we were
undaunted. Better was to come at the celebrations at Durham College, no
less. Five of us turned out to play in the bridge competition. Four of us
played as one team, coming a creditable third, narrowly missing second
place, and the fifth member of our group helped to make up another team, who
came out as winners. So all in all, we had a successful day. And many thanks
to the newly formed "Countons" U3A bridge group, who organised and
supervised, the bridge competition.
